Daffodil Cottage was established in 1997, when a need was recognised for a facility in Bathurst where cancer patients could be seen by an Oncologist and be treated without the burden of travelling to the metropolitan areas. Through the fundraising efforts and generosity of the Bathurst community, a cancer car service was built. This facility allowed cancer patients to receive chemotherapy, counselling, supportive care and palliative care. Patient numbers have increased dramatically since those first years and Daffodil Cottage now administers chemotherapy as well as immunotherapy treatments. There are now up to six clinics a week. These are comprised of medical oncology, radiation oncology and hematology clinics. Patients no longer have to travel to Sydney for radiotherapy - they are now able to travel to Orange and can do so by the Community Transport bus which leaves Daffodil Cottage every morning.
